The Bishop of Manchester

Yesterday after work I went along to meet the Rt Revd Nigel McCulloch, Bishop of Manchester, who was attending St Andrews Church in Hillock.  I had the opportunity to talk to him for a while and we discussed amongst many issues faith schools which he had met with the Rabbi of my synagogue to discuss on many occasions.  Last week when William Hague MP was in Bury South he was asked about the Conservative Party’s commitment to faith schools and he reiterated how important they are to the community and how successful faith schools of all faiths are.

Taking advantage of the dry and slightly warmer weather to go out and about tonight to meet residents in Prestwich.

Oh and last but not least – happy 22nd birthday to my son Marc!

Perhaps the Conservatives could support real choice in education.
How about the voucher and a choice of which school to send your children to. In Whitefield you could chose between Castlebrook or Philips – or pay the difference and send your child to KD or Bury Grammar.
Schools would then have to compete to survive and offer a real education rather than the fudged gradings Mr Balls passes off as ever increasing standards!
Labour surprise me – they offer a public private partnership in so many construction contracts – publically paid for private healthcare to reduce waiting lists – yet they have an almost pathalogical hatred of private education.. all the more surprising since most of their MPs had such education.
Bring on the faith schools – I would quite happily send my child to KD or St Monicas or a Muslim school if they achieved the best results.
If I want to pay out of my modest salary and send my child to Bury Grammar why should I pay for a state place too?
The Tories should really do somehting about giving parents a true choice and open education up to the free market
