Brown’s Tax Bombshell

I spent yesterday after work handing out leaflets outside Piccadilly Station in Manchester along with members of Conservative Future outlining the cost to each and every tax payer in this country of the proposals put forward by Alistair Darling in his autumn statement yesterday. Here in Bury each and every Council tax payer already pays around £125 per annum through their Council tax bill towards the interest on the loans of the Council – money borrowed under the previous Labour administration. Every family in the country will have to pay £4,000 in increased taxes to pay for Government spending. It is interesting to note that the tax increases are not to take place until after the 2010 general election. The tokenistic 2.5% reduction in VAT is probably going to cost many businesses more to administer than the benefit they will gain in increased custom.
