Catch up!

The last 3 weeks have been very short working weeks due to Jewish holidays so in between celebrating these, going to work, attending Council related meetings, visiting residents and dealing with a large caseload of issues and trying to keep up with the news I have had little time to write on my blog.  As I am now on the Board of Six Town Housing off to my first Neighbourhood Services committee meeting tonight.

Conservative Future Members visit Bury South

I was delighted to welcome many students from Manchester University together with other members of Conservative Future today who came along to help in Bury South.  Thanks to you all for your  help out and about on the streets of Prestwich on probably one of the hottest days of the year so far!  Hope to see you all again soon in Bury South and for more curry at the Con Club!

Advice Week

This week is National Advice Week and I went along with Bury North PPC David Nuttall this morning to visit Radcliffe CAB.  We took the opportunity to meet with Dave Bevitt the Chief Officer who spent an hour of his time explaining to us the role of the CAB and other advice centres in Bury.  The main message I took away with me is that people should not let issues drift and ask for advice early on when something arises.  The CAB and all the advice centres offer invaluable help and thanks must go to all the staff and in particular the volunteers who give of their valuable time.

25th Anniversary Dinner

Last night I attended a dinner to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the formation of Bury South and Bury North. The former MPs for these two constituencies, David Sumberg MEP and Alistair Burt MP were the guest speakers at the dinner. I moved to Bury the year they were elected and it was interesting to hear of their experiences in 1983 and also since. The evening commenced with a minute’s silence to honour the memory of Sheila Blaby the immediate Past President of Bury South who passed away last week. Her devotion and enthusiasm to the Conservative Party and in more recent years Bury South in particular will be greatly missed.
