Prestwich & Whitefield Womensguild

This afternoon I was invited to launch the opening of the annual Fundraising afternoon for the Prestwich and Whitefield Womensguild.  I was delighted to meet all the organisers and the many members and supporters.  I was asked to choose a charity to which the money raised this afternoon should be donated and I chose the Bury Cancer Support Centre an organisation which relies entirely on voluntary donations.

Sedgley Children’s Centre

Last Thursday I went along to the official opening of the Sedgley Children’s Centre which was opened by the members of the Sedgley Park Primary School, School Council.  Prior to the opening I was entertained by the pupils of the school singing Songs from the Musicals.

The Children’s Centre will aim to accommodate the cross cultural needs of the residents of Sedgley and I wish it much success.

Bury Youth Music Centre Festival 2008

Last night I attended the above concert with my daughter at the Elizabethan Suite at the Town Hall.  It was an amazing concert displaying the musical talent of some of our Bury youth.  The hall was packed out and my congratulations must go to all the participants and also to the organisers for a wonderful evening.

Last Thursday

the people of Bury voted NO to an elected Mayor for the full results see here and Bury’s two MPs voted YES to retain the ‘John Lewis’ list.   I may just write to Ivan Lewis MP to ask him why he voted against reforming the expenses system – as if I don’t already know the answer.

Yesterday

started off with the opening of the Art Exhibition for the Day Centre where I work at Maccabi Sports Centre in Prestwich and which was officially opened by my colleague Cllr Peter Ashworth the Mayor of Bury.  It was a wonderful event and well attended by members and their families.

In the evening I went along the AGM of Heathlands Village in another part of Prestwich which provides nursing, residential and day care as well as sheltered housing primarily although not only for Jewish members of the community.Â
